(MPI) - Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung hosted a reception for US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper in Hanoi on July 28.

Minister Dung and US Ambassador Marc E. Knapper expressed their delight at the sound growth of bilateral ties, in which trade, economic cooperation continues to be key pillar and are promoted stronger, towards the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership.

Minister Dung informed the guest of his working trip to the US in the early this month to attend the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. He had hold several working sessions with agencies, enterprises and investment fund of the US to promote cooperation in innovation and technology, research, exchange experiences and attract resources to building an international financial centre.

The minister suggested Knapper act as a bridge in promoting collaboration to fulfil commitments made by the two sides, and share experiences and comprehensive cooperation in innovation, and linkages with international financial markets. Vietnam encourages investment in some priority areas such as building semiconductor fabrication plant, investment in hydrogen and supporting startups, he added.

Minister Dung stressed that Vietnam always seeks to remove obstacles in investment procedures for US firms, suggesting that the US continue help Vietnam access to green financial resources to implement effectively the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), and develop renewable energy industry as well as carbon market.

He took the occasion to thank the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) for the close coordination with his ministry to support business and digital transformation in Vietnam with many practical programmes.

In reply, Knapper said the US is impressed by Vietnam’s efforts and solutions in carrying out energy transition path and the JETP to achieve net-zero gas emissions by 2050.

The US stands ready to assist Vietnam in its development path towards the implementation of ambitious energy and climate goals, he added. Its enterprises always consider Vietnam a strategic market with long-term investment, and hope that Vietnam will continue create more favourable procedures and conditions for their business production./.
