Minister Nguyen Chi Dung receives UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam

(MPI) - Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung thanked the United Nations (UN) for their companionship and support in consulting policies for Vietnam to realise sustainable development goals, at a reception for UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam Pauline Tamesis in Hanoi on June 19.

During the meeting, the two sides focused their discussion on Vietnam’s commitment to the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); preparation for publishing the Report of Voluntary National Review (VNR) of Viet Nam’s SDG Implementation; policy dialogues to promote the SDGs implementation; building a report on policy and investment options to promote the implementation of the SDGs in Vietnam through applying macroeconomic model.

The UN official spoke highly of the sound cooperation between the UN and Vietnam, including MPI, as well as the Cooperation Framework between the two sides, creating opportunities to design joint programs to promote effectively the SDGs in Vietnam. She affirmed that the UN will continue to work closely with Vietnamese sides to accelerate the implementation of the goals, towards achieving poverty reduction and sustainable development.

In reply, Minister Dung said Vietnam views the implementation of the SDGs a key task in the development process towards a sustainable, balanced and harmonious manner, which are addressed clearly in the Party, National Assembly, and Government’ documents.

He added, Vietnam is ready to participate the upcoming High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development and the SDG Summit, viewing these as both responsibility and opportunity to exchange experience with other countries.

The minister expressed his hope that the UN Resident Coordinator would serve as an effective bridge between UN organisations and the Vietnamese sides to further promote the good relations and close coordination./.
