(MPI) - Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Quoc Phuong thanked the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for providing consultation and policy dialogue activities for Vietnamese agencies, and training courses for MPI’s officials to interpret macroeconomic developments and apply analysis to policy formation and forecasting, during a reception for Feridhanusetyawan Tubagus, IMF Senior Economist in Hanoi on July 4.

Highlighting the evaluation opinions and policy advice from the IMF, Deputy Minister Phuong sad the report by the Article IV consultation team is one of the important information sources for the making and implementation of policies by the Government, ministries and sectors of Vietnam.

He suggested the IMF continue providing the ministry with training programmes and technical support, helping selected officials equipped with the ability to interpret macroeconomic developments using suitable techniques and apply analysis to policy formation and forecasting.

Tubagus, for his part, expressed his hoped that IMF’s  consultation and policy advisory activities will partially help the MPI in formulating effective socio-economic development policies. The IMF team will continue to work closely with the ministry’ officials to design suitable programme, which will make them analyse macroeconomic situation and build mechanisms based on scientific analysis./.
