(MPI) - Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc hosted a reception for a delegation of officials and businesses from the US state of California led by Mayor of Oakland city Sheng Thao in Hanoi on July 31.

Deputy Minister Ngoc expressed her impression that many businesses of California have carried out effective activities in economy, investment and business in Vietnam; and spoke highly of the sound relations between Vietnam and the US over the past time. The economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries are flourishing since 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of the comprehensive partnership.
She hoped that the Mayor’s visit to Vietnam this time will be an opportunity to further promote the partnerships between Vietnam and the US, particularly Oakland city and Vietnamese localities.
Mayor Sheng Thao said that California is one of the largest state of the US, and the delegation attended today are operating in various fields and wishing to enhance the mutual understanding with Vietnamese ministries, sectors and localities, including the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
She pleadged to assign relevant agencies of the city to work with the MPI and implement cooperation programmes, helping develop relations between Vietnam and the US.
At the meeting, representatives of the Vietnamese-American Business Association (VABA) and other enterprises in agriculture, pharmaceutical, logistics, real estate, tourism, and banks expressed theirs interest in Vietnam. The Southease Asia nation is emerging as an attractive and potential market, they said, calling for the accompany and support of Vietnamese agencies in their business and operation.
Deputy Minister Ngoc proposed the two sides to further promote the investment cooperation to bring it on par with its potential and advantages. She suggested both sides have specific activities, promote trade and investment so that investors will understand clearly about the investment environment and policies.
Vietnam is a developing country with the demand in import-export and investment with other nations are increasing. She said, there are ample room for both Vietnam and the US eye balanced trade, in which US businesses, including those from Oakland city, play an important role./.
