(MPI) - Minister Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung emphasised that the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) made important contributions in deepening the good relationship between Vietnam and Japan, during a reception for JICA Executive Senior Vice President Yamada Junichi.

Minister Dung welcomed Junichi’s visit to Vietnam on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties this year, suggesting for continued coordination from the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) and JICA to further strengthening the cooperation and investment relationship between Vietnam and Japan in the coming time.

Junichi informed his host about the signing of loan agreements in early July 2023 between JICA and the Government of Vietnam of the provision of Japanese ODA loans of up to a total of 60 million yen for three projects, including urban transport development, agricultural growth, and post COVID-19 socio-economic recovery.

He said that JICA’s orientation for supplying new-generation ODA for Vietnam in the time ahead will focus on standby credits for public health crises and natural disasters, loans provided through intermediaries, and financing owners’ capital for the private sector to implement infrastructure projects.

Minister Dung highly valued JICA’s proposals and affirmed to assign relevant agencies to have detailed discussion with JICA. Besides focusing on the implementation of some key and infrastructure projects with preferential conditions and simpler procedures, he also called for new-generation ODA for some railway, inter-regional connection, science and technology and innovation projects in Vietnam.

The MPI looked forward to receive the companionship  and support of Japan in general and JICA in particular to contribute to enhancing the Vietnam-Japan relationship, he noted./.
