Addressing the event, Minister Dung said the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) has collaborated with the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) within the framework of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), especially when Vietnam hosted the APEC 2017. These practical activities contributed effective recommendations for Vietnam’s reform and economic development.

The MPI has coordinated closely with the OECD in activities within the framework of the memorandum of understanding between Vietnam and OCED recently, he noted.

Vietnam is recovering strongly from the COVID-19 pandemic and complicated economic and geopolitical developments in the world, the minister said. During the process, the ministry has effectively promoted its advisory role by giving advice to the Government on the issuance of fiscal - monetary policies and major solutions to support the socio-economic recovery and development, maintain macro-economic stability, control inflation, speed up growth, and ensure major balances of the economy.

The ministry focused on providing recommendations to competent authorities to remove obstacles, innovate and improve the efficiency of state-owned enterprises. The ministry also advised to promulgate reform programme/initiatives and enhance the private sector.

Minister Dung hoped participants will give ideas on economic management and reform, corporate governance at state-owned enterprises, and the attraction of high-quality FDI amid the country’s green growth and digital transformation period.

OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann recognised considerable social progress of Vietnam in the past three decades, highlighting Vietnam’s success to prevent crisis related to COVID-19 and an attractive investment destination. He also said, OECD businesses support Vietnam to diversify its supply chains.

One of the OECD’s top priorities is to strengthen engagement with Southeast Asian partners like Vietnam, he stressed.

Participants at the event exchanged ideas to detail the action plan and the OECD-ASEAN memorandum of understanding for the 2022-2026 period. This will identify prioritised orientations for the OECD-run Southeast Asia Regional Programme (SEARP) of Vietnam’s chairmanship for the 2022-2025 tenure./.
